The European standard EN 1005-2 applies to lifting loads of at least 3 kg and to carrying loads less than 2 metres.

Quality of grip hands (Cm):
Good:
 - Load length <= 40cm
 - Load height <= 30 cm
 - Good handles
 - Good hand-hold cut-outs

Fair:
 - Load length <= 40 cm
 - Load height <= 30 cm
 - Poor handles
 - Poor hand-hold cut-outs
 - 90° finger flexion

Poor:
 - Load length > 40 cm
 - Load height > 30 cm
 - Load hard to grasp
 - Asymmetric center of mass

Work duration (d):
Duration of all lifting tasks and rest periods in an 8-hour working day.

Frequency multiplier (Fm):
Number of lifts per minute.

Actual mass:
The weight of the load to be lifted.

Risk index (Ri):
- Ri <= 0.85
  Low risk. The risk may be regarded as tolerable.

- 0.85 < Ri < 1.0
  Significant risk. Action recommended.

- Ri >= 1.0
  High risk. Redesign is necessary.
